Winwin Vacuum Coating Machine: Key Technical Considerations for Display Panel Coating Equipment

In the manufacturing of LCD and OLED displays, vacuum coating equipment is tasked with depositing transparent electrodes, insulating layers, organic functional layers, and encapsulation layers. Display panel requirements for coating equipment converge on three key aspects: large-area uniformity, low-temperature deposition capability, and particle control.

Deposition of Transparent Electrodes

The ITO transparent electrode is the most representative coating application in display panels. Magnetron sputtering equipment deposits ITO thin films on glass or flexible substrates, requiring uniform sheet resistance and high transmittance. Uniformity across large-area substrates is the core challenge, with gas distribution design, target layout, and substrate transport precision collectively determining film uniformity. Flexible displays employ roll-to-roll or sheet-fed coating equipment, which must balance low-temperature processing with transport stability.

OLED Functional Layers and Encapsulation

OLED organic functional layers impose special requirements on coating equipment. Organic materials are thermally unstable, so evaporation must be performed at low temperatures without causing material decomposition. Evaporation equipment must precisely control evaporation rate and doping ratio, as film thickness uniformity directly affects luminous efficiency and color consistency. Thin-film encapsulation technology uses PECVD equipment to deposit multilayer moisture- and oxygen-barrier films, which must achieve dense film quality at low temperatures, with water vapor transmission rates reduced to extremely low levels.

Core Equipment Selection Criteria

Several criteria should be considered when selecting display panel coating equipment. In terms of uniformity, large-area substrates require film thickness deviation to be controlled within a tight tolerance. Regarding particle control, display panels are highly sensitive to particle defects, making chamber cleanliness and transport system design critical. For low-temperature deposition, OLED and flexible displays require equipment that achieves dense film layers at relatively low temperatures. In terms of throughput, transport efficiency and batch processing capability for large-area substrates directly affect production cost.

Process Control and Maintenance

Display panel coating processes demand high parameter stability. Sputtering power fluctuations affect film sheet resistance and transmittance. Gas flow variations can cause film composition drift. Substrate temperature uniformity influences film crystallization state. In routine maintenance, regular chamber cleaning, target consumption inspection, seal replacement, and cooling water temperature monitoring are basic requirements. Establishing a parameter recording and trend analysis system can detect process drift before it impacts yield.
